Sunday 1st April

Another great walking day!

We finished 16.7 miles at a rate of 3.1 mph which is really fast for this group, or for any group over 30, so we’re proud of ourselves, tired and dirty, but proud.  There were lots of funny incidents but they were the kind that “what happens in the group, stays in the group! Thanks to Jeanne for the water supplies and really for the oranges, even though Judith was a bit vicious about claiming the remainder!  We’re trying to civilize her!

More pictures uploaded to Yahoo!: the one lauding “fagots” is particularly appealing (not)!

Speaking of, someone wanted to know, why so many horse pictures:  (1) Horses are attracted to me and vice-versa (no obvious jokes please); (2) I was bred in Kentucky and bred with an appreciation for the species; (3) Susan Hice, one of our big supporters is a great horse fan/rider.  So I’ll give you more snail pictures in the future, you ungrateful wretches!

So, Anton Bauer, the man who grows the grapes and makes all my wine, was in C’ville at my wine store Thursday, last week.  I missed him by one day, but he was the talk of the store on Friday:  everyone says he’s even better than his wine.

And tonight Tennessee (where Judith did PhD work is playing in the final four NCAA championship:  PLEASE root for the right team!!!  Again, thanks for your support: a big thanks to Mike Davis who keeps on giving.

An email quote from Susan:

"I love the horse pictures, of course.  What's happening to the abused one that you wanted to steal away in the night?  Horses are our connection between this world and well, you know, the spirit world.  In myths they can fly.  In real life they can haul our asses for miles without complaining or comfort your poor aching feet after offering an opportunity to rest briefly during a long walk for cancer."

Kudos to Susan for giving me another reason!
