Anne,
It has been fantastic meeting and corresponding with you –
my awe-inspiring Walker! Just in case no one tells you this
enough, you are truly amazing for the efforts you’re making
for this important cause!
To help put your fundraising efforts into perspective, here is an
‘inside look’ at the difference you’re making:
¨
The average cost of a mammogram is $100 – You have raised funding for at least 18
mammograms for women who may otherwise have not received
them because of inadequate health insurance or none at all.
¨
The average cost of an MRI is $1,000. Similarly, the cost
of a biopsy can begin at nearly $1,000 - You have raised funds for a MRI (which is a
Magnetic Resonance Imaging
technique to
help determine if a mass is malignant or benign); and a
biopsy, which is cutting out a little piece of tissue from
the breast to examine under a microscope for the presence of
cancer cells.
Your funds will also support many local programs and services
offered by Avon Walk for Breast Cancer beneficiaries. In the
past, Avon Walk beneficiaries right here in Washington, DC,
such as Food and Friends, received funding to support the
delivery of meals to breast cancer clients while they
undergo chemotherapy and their families from an Avon-funded
Community Dietitian. Funds also support major research
efforts at the Lombardi Cancer Center and Johns Hopkins
Medical Center.

We're
happy to report that Judith has gone over the top in her
Avon Breast Cancer walk monies!!!
When Sandra comes in, and we expect that soon, we're golden!
It may well be that "Team Flohr" will go to $10,000 and that
would be terrific...keep those cards and letters coming in
and thank each of you so much. |
